Masamoto Sohonten

Minosuke Matsuzawa, the founder of Masamoto Sohonten started crafting knives way back in 1866.
At the age of 16, Matsuzawa left his hometown of Tokyo to travel to Sakai to study knife crafting. Back then, and even today, Sakai was the prime destination of young craftsmen who want to master the art of knife craftsmanship.
It was Matsuzawa's dream that his family would be remembered as one of the best knife craftsmen. Now, five generations later, his vision has been realized and Masamoto Sohoten knives are regarded as one of the finest traditional knives in use today.
